Community Service Opportunities

Thank you for selecting the Humane Society of St. Lucie for your Community Hours.


Community Services hours are provided at the Humane Society’s Thrift Store and Donation Center located at 1001 Midway Rd., Fort Pierce   Assignments may include assisting with receiving donations, sorting, folding or hanging donated clothes, greeters,  and other duties associated with thrift store operations.  We make every effort to accommodate physical limitations.


We accept community service hours for traffic and DUI adjudications only.

This program is available for individuals who:

  • Must complete mandatory community service hours for the judicial system
  • Are at least 18 years old
  • Have reliable transportation
  • Must complete at least 10 hours of required service
  • Are able to commit to a set schedule of at least 4 hours per week

As part of the application process, candidates for this program must provide written documentation from the court verifying the crime for which they are completing service hours.  Candidates must also provide two professional or personal references.  References cannot be relatives. 

The Humane Society will not accept individuals who have been arrested and/or convicted of the following crimes/offences:

  • Violent crimes
  • Narcotics or controlled substance offences
  • Animal cruelty or neglect
  • Larceny
  • Sexual offences

We are not able to accept all applicants into the program. Selected applicants will need to attend an interview to determine eligibility for this program.  The Society has the right to dismiss a volunteer from service at any time. Volunteers that successfully complete their service hours will be given a verification letter for court. For your interview appointment please bring a photo ID,  documentation of your adjudication and community service hours order and the name of your community service supervisor.

The Humane Society of St. Lucie County with the Florida Animal Friend Grant of $25,000 was able to perform 800 spay and neuter procedures for a low cost to pet owners in St. Lucie County.

The grant allowed pet owners to make sure their pets are able to live long healthy lives at an affordable cost to them. Thanks to Florida Animal Friend for your continued effort in helping reduce the amount of unwanted pets in Florida.
