Adoption Ambassador Program

In 2015 the Humane Society of St. Lucie County adopted exactly 2,000 cats and dogs into forever homes. Approximately one-fifth of those adoptions come from our staff and volunteers participating in outside adoption events at places such as Petco, Petsmart, and local events. A strong volunteer base is vital to any non-profits success and we have a very passionate group of individuals who fight everyday for pets who have been abandoned or neglected in our community. In addition to our already successful foster program, the Humane Society of St. Lucie County has recently implemented a new program sponsored by the ASPCA.

The adoption ambassador program is essentially a foster program on steroids. Volunteers must go through the mandatory volunteer orientation and then go through an adoption ambassador orientation before they can participate.

Volunteers are trained how to process adoption paperwork, signs of concern and error someone might put on an application and how to properly do meet and greets with pets. This program empowers our volunteers to take the reigns on a potential pet's adoption. After successfully completing the training, adoption ambassadors are encouraged to come into our facilities and take out their favorite pet to pet friendly establishments in an effort to find them a forever home.

The program is still in its infancy, but already four dogs already have found forever homes! The program will help save more lives and find more pets homes than ever before!
