Feline Friend

Love cats and want to make a difference? Volunteer as a Feline Friend and you can help by:
  • Folding cat litter boxes (in the A/C!).
  • Fold news papers to line the cat condos (in the A/C!).
  • Transport cats and kittens to off-site adoptions, such as PETCO and weekend events.
  • Foster cats and kittens in your own home. This helps keep the kitties healthy, socialized and adoptable!

Volunteers at the shelter must be 15 years of age or older. Volunteers at PETCO must be 18 years of age or older. We are a drug-free workplace.

How to start volunteering

It's simple! Just fill out a volunteer application and send it to Paula O'Neal at volunteers@hsslc.org or P.O. Box 3661, Fort Pierce, FL 34948. Questions? Call Paula at 772-461-0687 ext 224.

We DO accept volunteers needing to complete hours for school and community service.

Can't volunteer at the shelter and still want to help?

We commonly hear many reasons that people cannot volunteer at the shelter, such as
"I would like to help, but just can't visit the shelter. I would want to take them all home." or
"I'm not old enough."

You CAN still help! Here are some ideas:

  • Start a toy or supply drive. Check out our wish list.
  • Raise funds for the cats. You can sponsor a cat, provide money to a special medical fund or make a donation to the overall care for the cats.
  • Hold an event for the cats.
  • Make toys or blankets as part of our Crafty Critter program
  • Like taking photos or video? Donate your time and photos and show off your skills with our Photo Fancier program. You can even share them with on FaceBook or eMail.
  • Help plan events for the cats with our Party Animal program.
