The Humane Society of St. Lucie County works with Animal Control from St. Lucie County, the City of Fort Pierce and The City of Port St. Lucie. We are not the same entity.

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) also provides REWARD money leading to the arrest from animal abuse or neglect. Call anonymously to the toll-free number: 1-877-TIP-HSUS (1-877-847-4787).

St. Lucie County

St. Lucie County's Animal Control Division is dedicated to serving the unincorporated areas of the county enforcing state and local statutes regarding animals, while at the same time working to reduce the amount of unwanted pets in the county.

With a staff of three officers and one coordinator, the Animal Control Division receives more than 13,500 animal complaints, responds to more than 120 bite cases, tends to more than 275 sick or injured animals, investigates 400 cases of animal cruelty and picks up nearly 2,000 strays annually.

St. Lucie County's Animal Control works in close cooperation with the Humane Society of St. Lucie County, which serves as the official animal shelter for the county, to help educate the public about the importance of spaying and neutering your dogs and cats.

The Animal Control Division also maintains and enforces a pet registration program for dog and cat owners in the unincorporated areas of the county.

City of Port St. Lucie

The Animal Control Division plays a very important role in enforcing the City of Port St Lucie’s ordinances concerning the welfare and protection of all domestic animals and wildlife within the City.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Animal Control Division is to protect the health and safety of the public from loose, vicious, sick and injured animals. We enforce all city and state laws that apply to animals and animal owners. The Division pledges to safeguard the animals in the City from neglect and cruelty. We strive to educate the public about responsible pet ownership and provide programs to decrease the number of unwanted pets in the community.
